Founded in 1973, SGCRA celebrated 50 years and is still going strong
The founding members of the Association drafted articles of incorporation and bylaws, registering as the Sweet Grass County Recreation Association (SGCRA) in 1973 with the State of Montana.
The preamble to the original bylaws provided, in part, that SGCRA "shall be a non-profit organization for persons, firms, partnerships and corporations engaged in recreational pursuits in Sweet Grass County and surrounding areas, including National Forest; for the purpose of promoting the betterment and improvement of the recreational conditions, recreational facilities, resources and recreational opportunities of the members and their families and the public..."
The certificate of incorporation was endorsed by then Secretary of State Frank Murray on January 2, 1973.
The Tin Shack
The Tin Shack
SGCRA leases a small cabin, called the Tin Shack, on private property and maintains as a safety shelter and warming hut for backcountry users. This property is in Sweet Grass County, sourrounded by the Gallatin-Custer National Forest. 45°13'14.9"N 110°13'05.9"W
